Saitek? Who are they, and why are they making keyboards? Well, apparently Saitek has been around for a while in the “Joystick” industry, but decided to break into keyboards lately.
I first heard about this magical blue, full-sized, backlit keyboard while flying home from Las Vegas. PC Gamer gave it an excellent review, and the thing had a blue backlighting that was unlike anything I’d ever seen. It was then that i decided i wanted this keyboard.
Now that it’s December 27th, I can finally say i own the sweetest keyboard ever produced.
I got online, trying to read reviews about it before buying, because I gave a second thought about spending my hard earned GiftCard on this keyboard, because I didn’t know the company, and typically this kind of crap is a gimmick to attract idiots. I looked at every website i could find, and all the reviews were great. 9/10 mostly… and the missing point was due to a “weird installer cd of drivers” as i found out. After buying this keyboard, i can say that non-light wise… this is probably the best set up i’ve seen.
The keys are all placed on the same level for comfort and are really easy, and comfortable to access. The keyboard also comes complete with a “command pad” which is composed of 9 buttons, and two mode shift keys. This is one of the cooler features of the keyboard. it allows you to program any keys for the buttons on the command pad, and use the different shift modes for even more button combinations… so essentially you could have 27 programmable buttons at your fingertips…. I tried this out in Counter Strike, using the buttons as WASD, and jump, and reload and stuff. The thing works awesome.
Now let’s jump into the main feature of this device… the blue LED backlighting.
If you’re the kind of person who loves a good LAN party, or enjoys just having a cool effect sitting on your desk all the time… this is definitely for you. The entire keyboard is flush with full, blue color, it’s not a cheezy rip-off lighting job. I was really impressed.
Another often complaint I read about was that the kids couldn’t see the letters on the keys… i’ve got news for you… if you’re geeky enough to buy this keyboard, you probably don’t need to be looking for keys anyway. Plus your monitor gives off plenty of light to see which keys are which. They call it “backlighting” for a reason, the light comes from behind the keys…
There’s also a button on the keyboard which allows 3 different modes of lighting: high, low, and off.
The “high” setting isn’t like scaldingly bright, but enough for effect, and the coolness meter to shoot out the roof. But in case you’d rather just have a regular old plain-jane keyboard, you can turn the lights off just as easy.
Overall, I’d probably rate this keyboard 10/11 because it works just as well as another keyboard I’ve ever owned. and it’s got the command pad along with it, and the thing lights up in blue, adding the perfect effect to any computer system, and desktop.
I love it.
The best place to pick it up would probably be at Newegg.com, because it’s a low low 38 dollars, I on the other hand bought it from Comp USA, and matched prices with Best Buy’s price of 49.99.
or look up saitek
The Saitek Gamer’s Keyboard is definitely the top-of-the-line backlit keyboard.
